The spring 2023 issue of The Moth will be the final issue of the magazine. Submissions will close 14 February 2023. 

All of the poetry and fiction published in The Moth is unsolicited.

We are delighted to receive previously unpublished work from anywhere in the world.

We are very happy to look at work in translation (as long as you have the consent of the author).

We cannot offer feedback on any work submitted.  

Copyright remains with the author. Some work published in the magazine may also appear on our website.

Please wait to hear from us before you send us more work. 


Please submit work between September and April annually, for consideration in the spring, summer and winter issues. 

Send up to two short stories (preferably no longer than 3,000 words) and as separate Word or PDF attachments

Please specify in the subject box that it is a fiction submission

If you would like your work to be considered for the autumn issue, then you should enter the annual Moth Short Story Prize. The autumn issue features the three winning stories, chosen by a different judge each year.

You can submit poetry all year around, but it's worth noting that the four poems shortlisted for The Moth Poetry Prize appear in the spring issue each year.

Send no more than six poems, and please send them in one Word or PDF attachment, if possible
